1990s Mr Chen’s Senh-ly Airplane Brand

This one is a bit more on the natural storage/darker side than other Mr Chen’s tea, still clean but it’s much more thick-sweet than complex, it also needs an energetic rinse. A great example of very well aged sheng puerh.

We found references that place this tea in early-mid 1990s but could also be older (80s). Pretty lucky we got it before Sothesby got to it, looks like the kind of old rare puerh that ends up on their auctions (half kidding, half serious).

Leaves look very good, there’s good strength left in the tea despite the advanced aging. A solid, dark old sheng cake to reach for often (one could easily spend 2 times as much for this quality of tea). Calming Qi to finish the package.

Mr Chen’s introduction

There’s actually a lot of old tea in Taiwan at much more reasonable prices than in mainland China, unfortunately most of what is found in Taiwan is too wet stored. Mr Chen, a personal friend of ours, old time collector, bought a few tongs of various teas during the 90s and early 2000s (before prices skyrocketed), and has been storing them in his home (dryly) since.

This kind of tea in China sells for crazy money, it’s very lucky we’ve access to these at all, Mr Chen has sold them to us at a very generous price and we pass the great deal on to you.
