This tea has a very traditional processing that emphasises a more savoury profile upfront (less sweet). There is a very good base with thick flavour, strong aftertaste, relatively low astringency that’s unmistakably pure old and ancient tree material, even if is processed in the manner of early 2000s factory teas and less like modern gushu (which tends to be much sweeter immediately).
This is a cake I’ve been storing for a long time and it only became apparent to me how good it is only after we started producing our own Benchmark Ancient Tree series. The beginner might find this tea strangely not-that-sweet (at first) but the expert will love the pure gushu strength and feeling this tea has. Of course the familiar puerh sweetness comes out in the second part of the session and will develop more and more as it ages, but the highlight of this tea is more to do with its other qualities: namely the combination of strong aftertaste and density of flavour and their long durability, with the great meditative Qi to match.
Similar profile to the great 2001 CYH/SXXH Manzhuan pure gushu. This cake was commissioned directly and stored by our source in a time where real ancient tree like this was not as expensive as today. These are the very last cakes available, no restocks.
