Highlights:
- Late 70s to early 80s
- Full, rich, clean taste with long aftertaste
- Very good Malaysian storage
- Really strong calming Qi
This was a small (less than 1kg) mystery batch from a friend, likely a Baolan (from Chen Chun Lan tea shop) though we don’t know which batch exactly. Thankfully… because the tea tastes great, and well stored liu bao of this quality of this age from an identified basket are over twice as expensive.
This is one the best Liu Baos we’ve tasted of this era: it’s rich and intense, with a deep clean sweet taste and long aftertaste, and the Qi is really excellent (deeply calming).
What we know for sure: Malaysian storage since at least the 2000s (when our source acquired it), however from tasting it, it has never been in HK wet storage so likely it’s been stored in China first and Malaysia later since it’s been made.
What we know almost for sure: given the lighter coloured ring in the tea and taste, age should be within late 70s to early 80s. We’ve compared this to a lot of teas of the period to be as sure as possible of the dating.
100g (~3.5oz) bags and 30g (more than 1 oz) jars.
